In this evocative work of image and text, physician-scientist and photographer Bob Farese, Jr., explores the profound connection between water and life. Farese’s book invites viewers to rediscover water as the elemental force that sustains existence—a baptism into the medium that makes all living things possible. Farese remarks, “The shape of water is in us and in all living things: fluid, permissive, persistent. It fills crevasses, it buoys structures, it creates form. As beings shaped by water, we carry the emotional potential of its quiet humility and its immense power. We are, in moments, turbulent oceans, placid lakes, or flowing as effortlessly as a stream.” Water’s unique life-giving and life-sustaining properties make it the perfect medium that allows us, and the flora and fauna we share Earth with, to exist. Through abstract, lyrical photographs paired with short texts that call attention to our inextricable relationship to water, A Perfect Medium shows that water is not simply as a resource, but an intimate, essential presence within and around us.
